Join a committee
The OMA has several committees where members, including residents and medical students, can make a difference in governance, health policy and the broader profession. Recruitment occurs twice annually during the spring and fall. Term limits are one to two years depending on the position.
Run for a leadership position
All members are encouraged to run for board, president-elect and constituency group leader positions. Members are eligible for any constituency group opening in their district, primary section, medical interest group and fora. Most have two-year terms with nominations beginning in November of each year.
Submit an idea through Ideanote
The OMA launched a new idea management software tool, Ideanote, to collect your proposal for the General Assembly Priority and Leadership Group. Ideanote allows all members to contribute a new idea, or add to an existing one, that they believe should be an area of focus for the OMA.
Nominate a colleague for an award
With 14 different award categories, the OMA Awards Program recognizes physicians, residents, medical students and community leaders for their contributions to the medical profession and health care in Ontario.
Become a health-care advocate
Physicians can play a key leadership role in advocating with the OMA and in their local areas for better patient health care. Learn more about what the health-care advocates do.
