The 2024 OMF Golf Tournament, presented by Dr. Bill, raised more than $221,000 to support the Ontario Medical Foundation’s revitalized direction to advance health equity and address the social determinants of health – two factors aligned with the OMA’s solutions for health-care reform in Ontario.
“We know that for many, health care in their communities doesn’t always meet the community’s needs and that’s why the OMF is taking on the challenge to help advance health equity for everyone. At the OMF, we are committed to unblocking barriers to health care,” said Dr. Albert Ng, OMF president and golf committee co-chair.

More than 130 golfers teed up at the tournament held on Sept. 20, including OMA members, staff, sponsors and stakeholders, that included a day of golf, contests, awards and tributes in honour of the OMF’s two decades of philanthropy.
Golfers could win two $10,000 prizes with contests for a hole-in-one, best dresser golfer, longest drive and the closest-to-the-pin. There were several vendor giveaways, raffle prizes and in-kind donations from Nespresso, Porter Airlines and Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle. An online auction offered hotel stays in Miami, Quebec, Toronto, Ottawa and flights with Turkish Airlines among others.

Jason Magennis, chief marketing officer at Dr.Bill, said partnering with the OMF and OMA allowed them to help make a difference by supporting physician-led initiatives in Ontario.
“The well-being and mental health of physicians is an issue that Canada has been facing for quite some time and we’ve been following it closely. We see daily, through interactions with our physician customers, the growing stress and burden you all are carrying. That’s why we’ve partnered with the OMF for the last two years – we want to help,” Magennis told the participants.
The day also featured the annual Dr. George Yee Memorial Award handed out to the best foursome.
As a founding donor to the Ontario Medical Student Bursary Fund program, Dr. Yee understood the financial challenges faced by medical students and we continue to benefit from his support through his generous financial contributions.
OMF President Dr. Albert Ng shares the foundation’s impact and direction with attendees during a luncheon following the tournament.
Dr. Adam Kassam, co-chair, OMF golf committee and OMA Past President, reminded guests that the golf tournament is just one way the OMF makes an impact in the lives of Ontarians.
“I have seen the power of the OMF’s work – whether that’s providing financial support to a new medical student who’s struggling to get by, or making it possible for a northern community high school student to attend CampMed (a summer camp that inspires high school students in the north to consider a career in health care), or providing hope to women who are experiencing homelessness. These are examples of what we can do with everyone’s support.”
A special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Dr.Bill, our lunch sponsor, Manulife, gold sponsors, the Canadian Medical Association, MD Financial Management Inc. and Scotiabank, and OMA Insurance and breakfast sponsor, Intact Insurance.
