The pandemic’s quick switch to virtual health care has changed patient expectations requiring physicians to also change how they deliver care.
Helping to enhance doctors’ skills and manage workflow through digital and virtual care education has been an important role of OntarioMD to facilitate the transition. Here are five OMD resources to support you and your team.
OMD offers various upskilling opportunities through its OMD Educates: Digital Health and Virtual Care Curriculum, an accredited learning series for clinicians, which has trained almost 2,500 participants to date. Webinars are conducted by OMD peer leaders or subject matter experts, focusing on clinical enhancements using digital and virtual care tools. Check out OMD Educates upcoming live webinars and past recordings.
Virtual care requires additional privacy and security considerations to protect patient confidentiality and data. OMD and the OMA, with support from Canada Health Infoway, have developed a comprehensive Virtual Care Privacy and Security Training Module for you and your staff. This module builds on the initial OMD Privacy and Security Training Module, while offering tracked attestation once completed. As a bonus, participants earn two CME credits for the training.
This network of physicians and clinic staff, who are expert users of OMD certified EMRs, can help you understand the clinical value of health technology and how to effectively incorporate it into your practice. Peer leaders understand physicians’ needs and frustrations and provide mentorship, education and advice. To connect with an OMD peer leader, contact peer.leader.program@ontariomd.com or submit a Request a Peer Leader Form.
OMD’s monthly newsletter offers practical tips and advice on EMRs, digital health and virtual care tools. Each edition features a helpful EMR ‘peer leader tip’ that can save you time and streamline workflow. Sign up to receive the newsletter.
The OMD Advisory Service team supports physicians by maximizing the value of their OMD-certified EMRs and other practice technologies. The team works around physicians’ schedules, offering personalized advice and services, such as helping identify useful EMR features and meeting doctors’ quality improvement goals, where and when needed. OMD kicked off a new season of learning with its third annual Digital Health and Virtual Care (DHVC) conference on Sept. 29-30, showcasing online CME accredited educational sessions, workshops and presentations geared towards clinicians and digital care enthusiasts.
The free event once again attracted attention from the health-care community:
Sessions covering a range of topics — including privacy and cybersecurity, remote patient monitoring, artificial intelligence in health care, clinician wellness, quality improvement and billing—provided valuable clinical knowledge to inspire and help attendees enhance their practices and workflow.
Day one featured a keynote panel, the Art of Practicing Medicine, discussing the humanity of medicine and its importance in patient care, with opening remarks given by OMD Board Chair Dr. David Daien, OMD CMO Dr. Chandi Chandrasena, OMA CEO Allan O'Dette and OMA President Dr. Rose Zacharias.
Day two marked National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day with a keynote address from Indigenous rights activist Tracey Lindberg — also a professor of law and the acclaimed author of Birdie. OMD staff and presenters wore orange or ‘Every Child Matters’ buttons to honour Indigenous Peoples of Canada and their history.
