Joule Innovation Grants support physician-led innovation

Deadline for applications: September 13, 2020

Joule Inc., a Canadian Medical Association subsidiary, supports physician-led innovation through the annual Joule Innovation Grant program by providing flexible funding to CMA members making a difference in health care.  

Physicians working on initiatives in the following five categories are invited to apply for a grant: 

  • Physician health and wellness: 1 x $100,000 and 1 x $50,000 
  • Access to care: 1 x $100,000 and 1 x $50,000 
  • Sustainable health care: 1 x $100,000 and 1 x $50,000 
  • Health care solutions: 1 x $30,000 
  • Emerging physician innovators: 1 x $10,000 for medical student; 1 x $10,000 for resident 

Each grant submission is assessed by the Joule Innovation Council using the following weighted criteria: 

  • Health care benefits: improving health outcomes for patients, physicians, and the overall health-care system 
  • Degree of disruption: transformation of current health-care approaches 
  • Scalability: potential for adoption and use within Canada and beyond 
  • Collaboration: advancing patient-centred care through meaningful stakeholder engagement 

Beyond funding, Joule Innovation Grants open many doors to physicians by gaining recognition for being a leader in innovation; getting your idea in front of more than 77,000 of your peers in the CMA; beneļ¬ting from Joule Innovation Council mentors; and through participation in events and other Joule ventures.
