The Ontario Medical Association congratulates Dr. Zane Cohen of Toronto and Dr. Lyne Pitre of Ottawa, recently appointed Officers of the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest honour.
With a medical career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Zane Cohen is an internationally renowned surgeon in the field of colorectal surgery, whose cutting-edge techniques in the field of inflammatory bowel disease and inherited colorectal cancer were the first to be deployed in Canada.
Franco-Ontarian Dr. Lyne Pitre has shaped a remarkable career as a physician and educator, championing French in medicine. She trained more than 200 family physicians in her career, and through her clinic brought French-language health care to Francophones across Ontario.
Created in 1986, the Order of Ontario recognizes exceptional achievement by individuals in their field who have played an important role in shaping the province and leaving a lasting legacy in Canada and beyond.
Upon admission, members are invested with the Order’s insignia, in the form of the Ontario trillium (the official provincial flower), and the provincial shield and crown. Appointees are also given the post-nominal initials “OOnt” to indicate the honour held by the individual.
