TORONTO, ON – Today, a Board of Arbitration, chaired by Mr. William Kaplan, released a decision awarding a 9.95 per cent increase for the first year of a four-year agreement between the Ontario government and Ontario’s doctors.
The award is retroactive to April 1, 2024. The next three years of the Physician Services Agreement will continue to be negotiated between the province and the Ontario Medical Association.
While the OMA is encouraged by the award, there is still much that needs to be done to conclude a full four-year agreement for Ontario’s doctors. The OMA is committed to continuing to work with government to resolve the current crisis in health care as expeditiously as possible.
Currently, 2.5 million Ontarians do not have access to a family doctor and that number is expected to grow to 4.4 million in less than two years. The OMA also remains concerned about access to care, particularly in northern and rural Ontario, and ensuring that specialist consults, surgeries, and diagnostic tests are provided to patients in a timely manner so that people receive the best outcome possible.
We want to thank all our members for their patience and continued support over the course of this bargaining process.
The Ontario Medical Association represents Ontario’s 43,000-plus physicians, medical students and retired physicians, advocating for and supporting doctors while strengthening the leadership role of doctors in caring for patients. Our vision is to be the trusted voice in transforming Ontario’s health-care system.
