CHAN, Dr. Yun Kai - Dr. Yun Kai Chan ("Kai") passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at Hospice Niagara on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the age of 70. Devoted husband of 45 wonderful years to Angela, he was the cherished father of Dr. Teresa Chan (Bruce Blain), Eric Chan (Judy Liu), and Dr. Winnie Chan (Robert Clayden). A proud and loving grandfather, he adored his grandchildren: Henry Clayden, Lucas Clayden, Kendrick Chan, and Emma Chan.
Kai will be lovingly remembered by his siblings Antonio (Lorraine) Chen, Josephine (Kam) Tsui, Sandra (Stephen) Lee, Iris (Tom) Ing, and Alain (Lisa) Chan; his mother-in-law Yiu Kam Kwan; and his brother-in-law Patrick (Vivian) Poon. He is predeceased by his parents, Kam Kwan Chan and Suk Yin Law, and his father-in-law, Ting She Poon.
A respected and compassionate physician, Kai dedicated his career to internal medicine, practicing in Niagara Falls from 1985 until his retirement in 2019. Known for his unwavering care, he was beloved by his patients and esteemed by his colleagues. For over two decades, he single-handedly implanted pacemakers in Niagara Falls. Passionate about sharing his knowledge, Kai loved teaching medical students and junior colleagues, leaving a lasting impact on the next generation of healthcare professionals. His participation in numerous clinical research trials (including several landmark studies) further exemplified his commitment to advancing medicine.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kai embraced life with joy and passion. He relished golfing with his close friends and cherished winter trips to Florida, where he could golf even more. At home, he delighted in sharing moments with his grandchildren watching Paw Patrol and Cocomelon. Known for his sense of humor, he had a penchant for chain mail jokes and spent his retirement indulging his love of cinema, watching nearly every action movie released in the last two decades.
We are deeply grateful to my father's kidney donor, whose selfless gift gave him the precious opportunity to travel and spend more time with us. We will be forever indebted for the lasting impact of your generosity.
Dr. Yun Kai Chan's legacy is one of kindness, humor, dedication, and love. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, yet his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration.
