Dr. Samuel Pak Nin Lam

Dr. Samuel Pak Nin Lam, son of Mr. Lam Chik Ho, former Chairman of the Board of Governors of Chung Chi College, passed away on 21 October 2024, at the age of 86.

Dr. Lam’s father, Mr. Lam Chik-ho, served as a Board member for nearly three decades, during which he also served as Board Chairman from 1968 to 1970, leading the College towards consistent and steady development. With the support of the Lam Woo Foundation, established by Dr. Lam’s family, several significant projects at the College were generously supported, including the expansion of the Chung Chi Chapel in the 1990s and the recent construction of the Student Development Complex. Our deepest condolences to Dr. Lam’s family.

Ms. Yang Ruhang, College staff member, passed away on 28 November 2024 at the age of 55. Ms. Yang joined Chung Chi College in November 2023 and worked at the Pentecostal Mission Hall Complex High Block. Our deepest condolences to Ms. Yang’s family.

Dr. Yung Kung Hing, Senior College Tutor of Chung Chi College, passed away on 2 December 2024 at the age of 88.

Born and raised in Macau, Dr. Yung Kung Hing was admitted to Chung Chi College in 1955, majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Biology. After graduating in 1959, he stayed on as a demonstrator. He later pursued further studies in the United States, earning a Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside. Upon completing his studies, Dr. Yung returned to his alma mater in 1969, where he was appointed Lecturer in the Department of Biology of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was also immediately made Chairman of the Department in Chung Chi College. In the academic year 1974-75, he won a Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship to be a Visiting Scientist in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge, where he did research on cell wall regeneration. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1979 and retired in 1996.

Dr. Yung devoted himself to the cultivation of Chung Chi College, participating in numerous committees and serving as the College Dean of Students from 1993 to 1996. After retirement, he continued to serve as a Senior College Tutor, dedicating over half a century to the College. Dr. Yung was highly respected and loved by teachers and students. His contributions to Chung Chi were remarkable, including the improvement project of Lake Ad Excellentiam, the launching of the Language Enhancement Programme, the establishment of the first Toastmasters Club on campus, the founding of Liu Yi Tang, the conversion of Orchid Lodge, etc. In recognition of his achievements and contributions, Dr. Yung was conferred Honorary Fellow of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2004.

Dr. Yung’s lifelong commitment to education and his tireless efforts for Chung Chi College are deeply appreciated and will be remembered by the College community.

In lieu of flowers, contributions will be made to Chung Chi College to set up the “Dr. K.H. Yung Memorial Scholarship” to extend Dr. Yung’s love and care to students. Cheques should be made payable to “The Trustees of Chung Chi College.”
