It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Patriarch, Raymond Braida. Surrounded by his family, he died peacefully at his home.
He is survived by Patricia (née Hill), his beloved wife of 58 years, his son Jason (Nancy), and his daughters Susan (Christopher), and Anne (Mark). He will be remembered as a devoted Poppa by his 8 grandchildren: Sam, Isabel, and Allison; Ryan and Zoe; Ava, Mara, and Julien. He will be deeply missed by his dear sister Dena (Peter).
Raymond was born on May 17th, 1940 in Acton Ontario to Abele and Agnese Braida. He is predeceased by his parents and his siblings: Aldo, Leno (Ledia), and Mary (Frank).
Raymond was the son of Italian immigrants who instilled in him the value of hard work. He obtained his Medical degree in 1964 and then pursued a specialty in Psychiatry, during which time he was appointed to the position of Chief Resident at the Clark Institute. In 1970 he became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He and Patricia moved to Guelph in 1973 where Raymond joined the Homewood Health Center’s Psychiatric Team. While practising at the Homewood, he contributed to the implementation and organisation of the Day Treatment Program. In 1976, Raymond set up a Private Psychiatric Practice within the Guelph community and was devoted to his patients until he retired at the age of 80.
A very special thank you goes to Guelph’s Palliative Care Program, and our very own team of Angels that took special care of Raymond in his final month: Tess, Marr, Girlie, and Joy. We will always remember your kindness, professionalism, and the dignity that you showed our father.
A private interment will take place at Marymount Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations would be appreciated for The Pine River Institute… an agency that embodies Raymond’s life’s work and also had a special place in heart.
