Dr. Indranee Thurairajah

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Indranee Thurairajah, May 27, 1940 – February 8, 2025.

Indranee was the wife of the late Mahendran Thurairajah, devoted mother to Lakshmi, and cherished sister to Swarna, Padma, Sounthy, Thevi and Latcho.

Indranee was born in Uduvil, Sri-Lanka. From early childhood, she proved to be a talented student at both Uduvil Girl's College, and later St. John's College, Jaffna, where she decided to pursue a career in medicine.

Following medical school at Peradeniya University, Indranee's gift for guiding others through problems was reflected in her choice to become a psychiatrist. In Canada, she had a long and successful career at the Centre for Mental Health and Addiction until she retired in 2014.

Outside her professional life, her greatest passion was gardening, where her creativity shone through and her garden was featured in the Toronto Botanical Garden's 2018 'Through the Garden Gate' tour. Indranee also loved travelling extensively, cooking delicious food, and was passionate about the arts.

She will always be remembered for her enduring strength, selflessness and loving support of her family.
