Dr. Brian Traviss (78) of Waterloo, passed away on August 14, 2024, in the presence of and surrounded by the love of his family.
Brian is survived by his high-school sweetheart and the love of his life Wilma (nee Jackson). He was the much-loved father of Alisson (Peter Pinfold), Lesley (Mark Curtis) and a 1971 Corvette Stingray (Ontario Orange). His granddaughters: Nicole, Devin, Lauren and Sophie could always count on him to be their captive audience and #1 fan. He excelled at raising strong, confident and fun-loving women. Brian was also the best big brother to Gail (Ken Moffett) as well as a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Brian practiced Family medicine in the Kitchener-Waterloo area for over thirty-eight years, including hospital care, obstetrics, surgical assistance and minor surgical procedures. Following his 'retirement', he went on to assist with surgeries at both Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's General Hospital for the next fourteen years. In addition to this, he shared his passion for making a difference in the lives of others by being an active member of hospital committees, a part-time clinical instructor in the Department of Medicine at Western University, a member of the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce Physician Recruitment Taskforce, and a volunteer and board member of Waterloo Kids Ability Centre for Child Development.
Brian was an avid collector. If there was two of something... he collected it. And if you could shoot it or hook it... he did that too. A skilled hunter, he enjoyed the camaraderie of friends, great food and wine, playing and winning at cards in addition to the hunt itself. He particularly enjoyed telling Alisson and Lesley that they had just eaten Bambi after the meal was over. A reader of all genres, he loved a good book and enjoyed sharing his favourite books with his family and friends. He loved exploring Europe with Wilma and documented all their travels with photos and detailed summaries of their adventures. They also enjoyed sharing their passion for travel with their grandchildren, taking Alisson and Lesley's families on trips that created life-long memories.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Grand River Hospital Foundation - Cancer Centre (cards available at the funeral home).
His laugh would fill a room, and his heart knew no boundaries.
