In memoriam
Feb. 20, 2024

Dr. Michael Chung-Tack

We regretfully announce that Dr. Michael Chung-Tack passed away on Feb. 20, 2024. He was born in Trinidad & Tobago on June 2, 1939, where he attended elementary and secondary schools.

He emigrated to Canada where he pursued medical studies at McGill University’s faculty of medicine. He successfully obtained his College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) Independent Practice Certificate on June 24, 1968, and became a general practitioner.

After a long and successful career working at hospitals and his private practice on Bloor Street West in Toronto, he resigned from CPSO membership on June 1, 2017, and retired.

Predeceased by his loving sisters, Yvonne, Rosemary and Jean, Michael will be missed by his brothers David (Charito) and Winston (Angela), his nephews and nieces, as well as other family members and friends.

Michael had a keen interest in music, especially steelpan music, old standards and calypso. He played steelpan on the road at several past Toronto Caribana parades with the Afropan Steelband. He often spent time identifying old songs he remembered from his youth and searching for them on YouTube. He also loved ballroom dancing. He took lessons and attended many dance parties, always bringing along dance partners.

In his younger years, despite not having any formal training in computer programming, he became quite good at programming the old DOS/Windows computers. He wrote some medical office practice software programs, which he used in his own medical practice.

Michael’s family thanks you for your condolences. His funeral will be private.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please send donations to the charity of your choice.
