Beloved son of Hugh and Frances Sloan (both deceased), much-loved husband and dance partner of Dorothy Joan Sloan (deceased), treasured father of Alastair, Gillian and Iain (Boetie) (deceased), cherished Oupa of Olivia, Nicholas, William, Mitchell, Cameron, Ella and Piper.
Dr. Sloan first arrived in Toronto in 1960 and worked at Hospital for Sick Children as an anesthetist and deputy chief in the anesthesia department until 1999. He also served as president of medical staff and a member of the board of director from 1990 to 1992.
Jeremy was consultant on anesthesia to Hospital for Sick Children, and in neonatology and pediatrics to Sunnybrook and Women’s College hospitals. He was an associate professor at the University of Toronto, and fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Royal College of Physicians of Canada. He was also credentialed by the American Academy of Pain Management. He was a member of the African Medical Research Foundation board and volunteered his services in Southeast Asia and Central America.
Jeremy was awarded the highly prestigious John Jenkins Award in 2001 for his service to the Canadian Standards of Practice for Anesthesia in Canada since 1963. He was also chairman of the technical committee on anesthesia equipment from 1985 until his retirement, and successfully promoted these standards to be adopted worldwide.
Jeremy was a pediatric anesthetist and deputy chief of anesthesia at the Hospital for Sick Children and a pain specialist in Toronto from 1960 to 2016. He was also an honoured advocate of Canadian and international anesthesia Standards, an active volunteer on international medical missions, and an avid sheep farmer and wool grader. He danced with Dorothy in Toronto’s Scandinavian & Dutch folk dance groups and also volunteered with Travellers Aid.
