Dr. Hartley Frank Jeffery

Dr. Hartley "Jake" Jeffery passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 25, 2024, at 90. Jake leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Jennifer, his five children and 14 grandchildren.

He was born in Portsmouth, England, on Nov. 3, 1934. He left school at 16 and worked as a farmhand until he went to King's College in London to become a doctor. He met Jennifer in Brighton, got married, had kids and immigrated to Canada in 1971.

Dr. Jeffery worked as a surgeon in the Tri-Towns (Temiskaming Shores, Ont.) area for more than 40 years and retired at 80. He was an avid sailor, started the hospital run, Ironman, swam across Lake Temiskaming (twice), ran marathons, played squash, coached soccer, mentored medical students, ran a farm and travelled the world.

His life was a life well-lived and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (text of 1834)
By Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Farewell, farewell! but this I tell
To thee, thou Guest!
He prayeth well, who loveth well
Both man and bird and beast.
He prayeth best, who loveth best
All things both great and small;
For the dear God who loveth us,
He made and loveth all.

Dr. Jeffery’s care was entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home. Condolences and tributes can be made on his memorial page.
