Dr. Gerardo Gabriel S. Calderon

Dr. Gerardo G.S. Calderon was born on March 23, 1939 in Manila, Philippines. He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas school of medicine in 1963. After graduating, he took part in an exchange program for one year in New York and one year in Detroit.

While working in Detroit, he eventually met his future wife across the border in Windsor, Ont., in 1966. They were married in the Philippines in 1968.

In the Philippines, he practised medicine as a family physician for number of years. He migrated to Canada in 1972. He then completed his residency at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto for one year and another year at Sunnybrook Hospital. He was then qualified to write the board exam, which he passed on the first try.

Dr. Calderon started practising medicine in Canada right there and then. He spent the rest of his professional life in Canada until he retired in 2016.

He is survived by his loving wife, Zenaida Calderon (a retired registered nurse), his only son Gerardo (Junray) Calderon Jr. and his wife, Gladys, and his two grandchildren Gianna and Gabriel.

Dr. Calderon will be greatly missed by all in the Filipino-Canadian community.
