Dr. F. Margaret Fisher

Dr. Margaret Fisher passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2024, at Norfolk General Hospital in her 86th year. Beloved wife of Dr. Garry Fisher for 61 years. Loving mother of Richard Fisher and his wife Stacie of Burlington, Dr. Marnie, aka Libby Fisher, and her husband C.J. Gavsie of Toronto, and Jacqueline Chin and her husband Paul of Waterloo. Cherished Nana to Matthew and his wife Logan, and Christopher, Jonathan, Lexi, Daniel and Cole. Dear sister of Marion Dawley, late Barbara Lang and late Evelyn Iacovino. Margaret will be sadly missed by many other nephews, nieces, second nephews and nieces and friends.

Marg was a fun-loving, athletic and gifted academic who followed her dreams and passions and pursued a career in medicine. Her medical school class of '64 at the University of Western Ontario was special; a record 15 per cent of female graduates, and the entire class remained lifelong friends. It was also where she met her partner for life. Marg and Garry married quickly to become graduates Drs. Fisher. Marg did not stop there, and continued in anesthesiology while Garry pursued a career in general surgery, moving back to Simcoe in 1970. Marg was a trailblazer; balancing her career while being a working mother of three. She helped modernize anesthesia and ICU care at Norfolk General Hospital and inspired both her children and grandchildren to reach their dreams. Her passion for medicine was equaled by her devotion for her grandkids, golf and gardening. She will be forever loved.

If so desired, donations may be made to the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation, Trinity Anglican Church or the Salvation Army. Online condolences may be made on the Ferris Funeral Home website.
