It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter. Surrounded by loved ones, Peter slipped away peacefully as a glorious spring sunrise shone around him on Wednesday, May 22nd.
He is survived by his caring spouse Mai, with whom he shared 45 years of loving marriage. Together they enjoyed decades of world travel, sports, and bridge. He was a proud father and father-figure to Mike & Debbie, Scott & Tomoe, Matt & Rachel, and Thad Ritchie. 'Papa Pete' adored his grandchildren: Jake, Hannah (1998), Meaghan, Emma, Lachlan, Kaitlin, and Abby. Predeceased by his parents Clara (Robbie) and Hal, as well as his brother Steve. Also survived by his sister & brother-in-law Jennifer & De and nieces Christy & Renata.
Peter had an optimistic outlook on life and will be affectionately remembered as an easy-going, even-tempered man with a great sense of humour. He was an intellect with an inquisitive nature and a sense of adventure that contributed to a life lived fully with memories that will be cherished always.
Peter was a proud Queen's University alumni who attended all his reunions over the years. He was a pioneer in the field of emergency medicine and cherished a career that spanned over 40 years until his retirement 8 years ago. He will find his forever home at his beloved family cottage on Big Rideau Lake.
Those who wish to honour his memory may choose to donate to The Cancer Assistance Program in Hamilton https://cancerassist.ca/ or Saint Joseph's Healthcare Foundation for the renovations of the Emergency Department.
