Neil Harte, cherished husband, devoted father, esteemed colleague, and beloved friend, departed from this world unexpectedly on May 16, 2024. Neil leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Heather, and their two beautiful daughters, Raquel and Keira. He was the treasured son of Skye and the late Daniel, and a dear brother to Kevin and identical twin, Jim. Neil will also be remembered by extended family in Winnipeg, Seattle, and Dublin.
Born in Pine Falls, Manitoba, Neil's formative years were spent in Winnipeg. A graduate of the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science, Neil was awarded the silver medal for his academic excellence. He pursued further studies at the University of Manitoba School of Medicine, fulfilling his career as an Emergency Physician. Neil's professional journey took him from the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg to the Samaritan Medical Centre in Watertown, New York, before settling for the past 16 years at Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener.
Neil fully embraced life, actively pursuing his desires instead of merely talking about them, and valued experiences over possessions. Whether golfing, curling, skiing, or playing hockey, Neil's dedication to staying active in ways he loved was evident to all who knew him. Neil greatly valued these communities, notably going on golf trips with 'The Winnipeg Boys,' medical school friends, and fellow members from the Deer Ridge Golf Club. He also enjoyed participating in annual events like the self-organized NeDo (Neil/Don) Golf Cup, 'Docs on Ice' Hockey Tournament, and Doctor's Curling Bonspiel.
Many describe Neil as the smartest person you will ever meet, quite literally knowing everything about everything. His encyclopedic knowledge was fostered through a lifetime of reading and travel, embracing his love for adventure and history in countless trips around the globe. He loved bringing his family along when possible, creating memories they will cherish forever. Most recently, Neil experienced the total Solar Eclipse with his wife and daughters, sacrificing his sleep to drive many hours into Quebec for a clear sky.
Neil's family finds solace in the outpouring of love and support from relatives, friends, and colleagues, and extends heartfelt gratitude to the first responders and Neil's hospital colleagues for their efforts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Neil's honour to the St. Mary's General Hospital Foundation (Cardiac Centre Fund) or the Grand River Hospital Foundation (Emergency + Critical Care Area), ensuring his legacy continues to impact the lives of others.
