Dr. Aurfan Nasif Nasser Butty

 

Dr. Aurfan Butty passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024, at the age of 68, in Toronto, Ontario after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones.

His family, his work, and faith were of the utmost importance to him.

He was born in Kirkuk in 1955, moved to live in Babylon, and then Baghdad most of his life where he completed his medical studies.

He obtained his MBChB degree from the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, in 1979. He completed his M.Sc in the Department of Pathology , College of Medicine, University of Baghdad and obtained his clinical Pathologist Certificate by the Higher Committee of Medical Subspecialty in Baghdad, Iraq in 1985. Aurfan worked at different military hospitalsl in Iraq, then became the Chief of the Laboratory Medicine Department at Saddam Teaching Hospital in Najaf Governate, Iraq in 1986 and then was recruited by the Central Health Laboratory in Baghdad in 1991.

He was the Chief Medical Director and owner of Doctor’s Medical Laboratory, the most advanced private medical laboratory in Baghdad, Iraq in 1991. He then became the Chief and Director of the Laboratory Medicine Department, Al-Kindi Teaching Hospital, Baghdad, Iraq, and became an assistant professor at the Medical and Health Technology College in Baghdad, Iraq in 1998.

Aurfan received many awards by the Iraqi medical association including the most talented Iraqi pathology physician award in 2002.

He then immigrated to Canada in 2005 and entered the Residency Program in Anatomical Pathology at the University of Toronto acquiring his Fellow of The Royal College of Physicans of Canada (FRCPC), and the American Board of Pathology in 2016.

He was recruited to the Pathology Department at the Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Orillia, Ontario, and the Bluewater Health Hospital in Sarnia, Ontario.

Aurfan was, in turn, a doctor, father, grandfather, brother, husband and a friend. He loved his family, his job, and his friends. He had a courageous, hard but happy life. He was full of love for his wife, family and of generosity, caring and kindness to his friends and everyone around him.

Aurfan Butty is survived by his beloved wife, Haifa Tawfiq Butty, their sons Ziad Butty, Ramiz Butty and his wife Sarah Al-Tahran, Marwan Butty and his wife Mariam Jabri, and Ameer Butty and his wife Raghad Jarjis, his grandchildren Deborah and Daniel Butty, his mother Angel Batto and his brother Adnan Buty.

Aurfan will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on.
