Wallace Johnston Troup died on Sept. 25, 2023, at age 93 at The Ottawa Hospital-Civic Campus. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Beverly (nee Bartram) Troup, son Alick (Jane), daughter Edith Lesley, daughter Jenni (Peter Lee), son Gordon, and four grandsons, Will, Nelson (Sara), Griffin (Paige) and Hamish.
Son of the late Dr. Wallace Troup Sr. (born in Aberdeen) and Mrs. Ruth Troup, he is survived by his sister, Mary Ruth Ballantyne (of Almonte). Wallace was predeceased by his sister Mrs. Nora Bajjaly (of Watertown, N.Y.) last November.
Wallace attended Glebe Collegiate and graduated from Queen's University with an MDCM degree in 1954. He pursued postgraduate studies at the Montreal General Hospital, McGill University and in England. He practised clinical cardiology in Ottawa and was the first chief of medicine at the Riverside Hospital in Ottawa. When the Heart Institute was built, he immediately saw this would be a better fit and continued his career there.
He was always an active fisherman and a keen golfer, becoming a life member at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, where he played up until a few years ago. Wallace sailed at the Britannia Yacht Club for 20 years. He was president of the Rotary Club of Ottawa and the Friday Club at the Ottawa downtown YMCA. He was a ruling elder of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. He had a great fondness for St. Paul's Church, Ottawa.
