Dr. Pamela Janet Frid

Peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Pamela Frid passed away in her 67th year. Eldest daughter of Karen (Brampton) and the late Bill Simmons. Dear sister of Sandra Frid and Nevile Phillips (Youngs Siding, Western Australia) and Beverly Frid and Scott Burrows (Oakville). Loving aunt of Holly Burrows.

Pamela began her post-secondary education at Queen’s University in 1976. She graduated from Queen’s University School of Medicine in 1982. While at Queen’s, Pamela was a member of the Queen’s Bands for five years and enjoyed the tradition of the parade to football games.

After graduation, Pamela spent four years as a pediatric resident at McMaster Children’s Hospital followed by a two-year fellowship at Chedoke Hospital in Hamilton, Ont. Pamela practiced in her early career in Kingston, Ont. and was a member of the faculty at Queen’s University School of Medicine.

After moving to London, Ont. in 1999, Pamela took on a new role at CPRI. Four years later she was appointed as the medical director at Thames Valley Children’s Centre (TVCC), with a cross-appointment on the faculty at Western University. Pamela received official recognition from the Royal College of Physicians of Canada for her contributions to establishing developmental pediatrics as a medical specialty with its curriculum and its qualification exam. She was chair of the national exam committee for several years.

After retirement in 2023, Pamela was named a professor emeritus at Western University. Apart from her professional career, Pamela had many interests and hobbies, including photography, needlework,and travel.

The family would like to thank the professional and support staff at London Health Sciences Centre who supported Pam over the last few years, with extended thanks to Westmount Kidney Care Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pamela’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Children’s Health Foundation London, or Diabetes Canada.
