After a full and blessed life, the family of Maurice Patry wish to announce his peaceful passing on March 14, 2024.
He and Suzanne were married in 1955 and were seldom apart. Proud father of Michèle (Jean Lamothe), Jean (Wendy Coopman), Marc (Heather Blenkiron), Lise (Rob Cataford) and André (Karla Rahn). He will be greatly missed by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He graduated from the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine in 1955. He worked as a general practitioner in Welland, Ont., for 25 years and at the Canadian Medical Protective Association for 14 years. He retired in 1994 to indulge in his two passions: golf and the family cottage north of Ottawa. He loved being a family doctor and was loved by his patients and respected by his colleagues.
He made numerous friends in his successful career. He was active in the Club Richelieu de Welland as president and regional governor for southern Ontario. He chaired the committee that established the first public French language high school in the province, école secondaire Confédération in Welland. He was an avid and exceptional bridge player and belonged to many clubs.
He loved singing, laughing, good wine, a good conversation, dear family and friends. Now that he enjoys a well-deserved rest, he is remembered as a man of courage, integrity and generosity whose example will guide us all.
In accordance with Maurice’s wishes, the funeral will be held privately among family.
