With gratitude for his life of love, service and gentle adventure, we are sad to announce that Geoffrey died peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton on Dec. 1, 2023. He was ready to let his soul free.
Born in the U.K., Geoffrey qualified as a doctor before immigrating with his wife to Canada in 1966. He worked for the Grenfell Mission in Newfoundland and Labrador for a year before a move to Edmonton, where he completed his training in anesthesia. During their 25 years in Edmonton, Judith and Geoffrey raised their family. They moved to Dundas, Ont., in 1992 where Geoffrey worked as a medical director at St. Peter’s Hospital for some years, then moved to treating patients with chronic pain until 2021.
Loved and survived by his wife Judith and his two children Sandi (Richard Matthews) and Ian (Janet Moore), and his grandchildren Anna Matthews (Grady Jackson) and Evan Matthews (Hannah Rochon-Terry), and Cole and Macy Purdell-Lewis. Remembered with love by his brother David (Jo) Purdell-Lewis in the U.K. The family wishes to give particular thanks to the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital 4E for their care in the last nine months, and for the medical care that he has received over the last year.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Niagara Food Security Fund will be appreciated by the family.
