It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Jacob Andrew Holub, in his 69th year. Jake passed away peacefully on Long Lake, Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, with his loving family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 41 years, Deris, and his children Jennifer (Ryan), Scott and Allison (Suman), and his three grandchildren, Ronan, Maddix and Yelizaveta. Jake was predeceased by his parents Roman and Margaret, brothers Bryan (Anne) and Tom (Dolores). He is survived by his three brothers, Bruce (Helena), Craig (Nicole) and Blair. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews.
Jake served his hometown of Sudbury for over 40 years through his family medical practice. He was a passionate hockey fan with a particular fervour for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He served as the Sudbury Wolves team doctor for many years. Jake enjoyed great camaraderie with fellow Idylwylde golf club members, golfing and winter vacationing with family and friends in Innisbrook. Jake found profound solace at his remote camp on Burns Lake and family cottage on Fairbanks Lake.
Jake was most proud being at the rink watching his two grandsons play hockey. Jake wore many hats, and all very proudly: husband, father, poppa, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, doctor, coach and colleague. Jake just loved life, and everyone around who shared it with him.
We would like to make a special thank you to all the health-care professionals throughout Canada and the United States that contributed to his journey. A very special thank you to Suman, his very dear friend, and most helpful navigator through this difficult medical journey through constant communication and assistance for the best of medical care.
We would like to acknowledge two very special friends. Jamie Wallace was a sixth brother to him, he was able to make so many beautiful memories for Jake and his family, for that we are forever grateful. Along with Scott MacDonald, who never backed down from a plan executed by Jake, even if he did not think it was the best of ideas.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dr. Jake Holub Bursary Fund would be appreciated.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
