Gordon Tisdall was a gifted psychiatrist whose wide base of patients benefited from his knowledge and training.
After graduating from the University of Toronto in medicine in 1964, he undertook his internship at Vancouver General Hospital and his residency in internal medicine at Sunnybrook Hospital. His growing interest in adolescent psychiatry took him to further training at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, the C.M. Hincks Treatment Centre and then Mount Sinai Hospital.
He began working at the University of Toronto in 1970, then became director and psychiatrist-in-chief at the psychiatric division at the University Health Service in 1985. He moved fully into private practice in 1997.
Gordon died on April 29, 2024, at 86. He was father to Douglas (d. 2016) and Kay, from Gordon's first marriage with Barbara; grandfather to Sigourney (Douglas and Sonya) and Alec and Emily (Kay and Robert). His later marriage to Robin for the last 23 years connected him to his stepdaughter, Carolynne, her partner, Craig, and her children, Alec, Juliette and Nicolas.
