Gordon passed away peacefully, at University Hospital, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at the age of 87 years. Gordon was born in Regina, Sask., on August 25, 1936, the second child of Dr. Martin and Mary (Schwartz) LeBoldus. Gordon is survived and deeply missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Amanda (Durocher) LeBoldus; and their children, Michael (Kelly) LeBoldus, Cathy (Chris) Ludlow, Susan (Dave) Nichol and Sarah (Murray) Fries. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Mary, Sarah and Kelly Ludlow, Maggie Nichol, Jacob, Aaron and Ava Fries; and Gordon's siblings, Ronald LeBoldus (deceased), Noreen Leitner, Leonard LeBoldus (deceased) and Linda LeBoldus; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Gordon grew up in Regina, spending summers at B-Say-Tah Point on Echo Lake in the Qu'Appelle Valley. Gordon played many competitive sports in his younger years. Gordon met Margaret, a nurse, at St. Joseph's Hospital. They were married on June 11, 1960. He and Margaret moved to London in 1965, where Gordon opened his private medical practice.
In addition to being an avid flyer, Gordon spent many hours teaching his children to downhill ski. His family has fond memories of ski trips to Vermont and sunny trips to Florida. He also enjoyed growing his herbs and vegetables and training his yellow labs for dog trials. In his later years, Gordon was an excellent golfer, who enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and spending time with family. He was a member of the London Hunt Club for many years and thoroughly enjoyed his role as chairman of the Greens' Committee. Gordon graduated with his M.D. degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1960, where he was an Alpha student; he graduated near the top of his class. He interned at St. Joseph's Hospital and completed his post- graduate work at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and Westminster Hospital in London. He joined the Faculty of Medicine at UWO as an instructor in otolaryngology in 1965, was promoted to assistant professor in 1969, and then to the rank of associate professor in 1975. Gordon was a clinical academic in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. For sixty years, Gordon contributed significantly to the Department of Otolaryngology in both teaching and research. He supervised the residents' clinic and offered a unique one-on-one mentorship. This clinic commitment was ongoing throughout his career and was unique amongst the community-based clinical academics. He always welcomed and encouraged medical students in the clinic and operating room. He was chair of the Residents' Research Day Committee, beginning in 1988. Under his leadership, Residents' Day saw explosive growth with unprecedented support and fostered great relations with the otolaryngology alumni. Gordon was an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Gordon retired in June 2020 after 60 years of practice.
