After a 10-year battle with Parkinson's, Frank Michael (Mike) McAteer passed away in his sleep during the early morning hours of Jan. 24, 2024.
Known fondly as Mike, he was born to Frank and Isabel McAteer on Aug. 16, 1937, in Sudbury, Ont. He grew up in the mining towns in and around the Nickel Basin, attending high school first in Copper Cliff, with his final year at St. Andrew's College in Aurora. He entered the University of Toronto, intending to study geology and forestry, but ultimately chose medicine. He graduated in 1962 and never looked back.
Predeceased by his son, Jeffrey David in 1975; Mike is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his children, Peter and Anne; his daughter-in-law, Erin; his grandchildren, Hannah, Zech, Yasin, Ava Rose, Simon, Eleanor, and Abigail; his sister, Joan and brother-in-law, Bob; nephews, Peter and Sean; and niece, Kristin.
