After a long full life, we announce that Dr. Donald Kitching died peacefully at home on May 15, 2024, with his wife Dorothy by his side. He was in his 96th year.
Father to Allan Kitching (Nancy), Nancy Kitching and Margaret Carson (Jeffrey). Grandpa to Amy Amar, Brian Hum, Richard Hum, Rebecca Karauskas, Sydney Carson, David Kitching, Greg Kitching and Sarah Kitching. Great Grandpa to Marianne, Aurora, Maeve and Aislin.
Born in Woodstock, Ont., on Jan. 19, 1929, the oldest child of Carl and Bertha Kitching. Graduated in 1955 from University of Toronto with his medical degree. His medical residency was completed at the Hamilton General Hospital and then opened his own family practice on Alice Street in Hamilton. He also was the Firestone Plant doctor on Burlington Street until 1981.
Donald and Dorothy then moved to Mississauga, Ont., where he continued to practise family medicine until 2001, when he retired at age 71. He will be remembered for his avid history recalls and storytelling of, "When I was a resident..."
Cremation and interment have taken place at the Glen Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery in Oakville. Thank you to Tansley Woods Retirement Village for their extra support during the last few months.
