Dr. Brian Ormerod, 85, recently of Barrie but a long-time resident of South Porcupine, passed away on April 19, 2024, in his sleep.
Brian was born on July 16, 1938, to Harry Ormerod and Elizabeth Ormerod [nee Fifield] in Nelson, England. After acquiring his A-levels at Lancaster Royal Grammar School in 1957, he went on to study medicine at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 1962. He acquired his medical certification in 1964 after working at Preston Royal Infirmary where he met his soon-to-be wife Maureen.
Brian and Maureen wed in 1966, shortly before immigrating to Canada. They arrived in Canada on March 26 of that year, settling first in Biggar, Sask., then Bracebridge, Ont., and finally in South Porcupine, Ont. Between these moves, the pair had two children, John Robinson (Robin) and Peter Scott (Scott).
Brian was an active member of the South Porcupine community through both his professional and personal life. As one of a handful of town doctors in South Porcupine, Brian came to know and care for many of the local residents over the years. When not working, he split his time between many endeavours including the establishment of the Kinsmen Club of the Porcupine. His efforts were recognized by the Club when they presented him with a Life Membership in 1982.
Brian had many interests and enthusiasms over the years, including a love of woodworking, family genealogy and Burnley Football Club.
Brian was predeceased by his wife, Maureen, father, Harry and mother, Elizabeth. He is lovingly remembered by his; sons John Robinson Ormerod and Peter Scott Ormerod; grandchildren Jack and Katie Barber-Ormerod, and Peter Ormerod; sister Maureen Rotherham [nee Ormerod], and her husband Bill and daughters Andrea Statter and Lynne Rotherham and their families.
