Born and raised in Jamaica, Dr. Benjamin Thompson (Oct. 19, 1925, to Nov. 20, 2023) arrived in Montreal in 1945 to study medicine at McGill University and never left Canada.
His great intellect led to him being assigned the position of chief of surgery at St. Mary's Hospital while in Montreal (1970s), as well as to him creating surgical departments in the Ontario towns of Cochrane (late '50s, early '60s) and Kincardine ('80s and '90s).
With his late, much-loved wife, Barbara (nee Foley), he raised two children, Maureen and Greg.
He died in his sleep after his beloved Montreal Alouettes won the Grey Cup.
