It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Tom Wilson peacefully at Ed’s House, Cobourg, Ont., at the age of 87.
Tom was the beloved husband of Anne for 62 years, the loving father of Sally (Tom Ryall), George (Lori) and Bruce (Lee-Anne) and the dear grandfather of Katie, Mark, Alison, Ella and Tavish.
Tom, the son of the late George and Mollie Wilson, was born in Birmingham, England. After his father’s death in 1939, Tom and his mother moved to the borders of Scotland to stay with his paternal aunt, Chrissie, during the war. He attended Epsom College, Surrey then studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1959. Tom was the president of the University Athletic Club (1958-1959) and was captain (1957-1958) of the University squash team.
After practising medicine in Scotland for several years, he emigrated to Canada in 1969 with his young family. He joined the practice of Drs. Leeson and Scott at the Cobourg Medical Centre where he was a physician for over 35 years.
An avid sportsman, Tom loved golfing, walking, cross-country skiing, squash and tennis. One of his great passions was for gardening; he took pride in his garden at our home on D’Arcy St. and had a particular fondness for the many trees he planted there and in his other gardens and for the ones he encountered on his frequent walks.
The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Dr. Emma Smith and the staff at both Northumberland Hills Hospital and Ed’s House whose kindness and dedication has not gone unnoticed.
