It is with great sadness his family acknowledges the passing of Dr. Scott Wilson. Scott was the loving husband of Jake Lucas and father of Paul, Rachel, and Jonathon Wilson. He will be greatly missed by his cherished friends and family. Scott was a devoted physician and outdoors enthusiast. He often enjoyed paddling along the shoreline of Lake Superior, hiking Robertson’s Cliffs or snowshoeing through Gros Cap. He loved to be outside and was happiest on his bike, whether it be mountain or road. As an avid cyclist and traveller, Scott was also very much concerned about the environment and was active in minimizing our impact on the environment through responsible initiatives. He greatly enjoyed all outdoor activities and could be found outside in all seasons.
He was extremely well liked among his co-workers in the operating room at Sault Area Hospital and will be missed immensely. He was well known for his love of mathematics, numbers and language. He would challenge the staff to figure out his number riddles, on a regular basis. He also enjoyed a good word puzzle, finding time each day to complete a cryptic crossword or Wordle.
Scott graduated from the University of Ottawa Medical School in 1995. Upon completion of his family medicine residency, Scott started a full-scope practice in Marathon, Ont. at the Marathon Family Health Team. He provided care in obstetrics, emergency and family medicine. In 2008, Dr. Wilson returned to residency and completed one year training in FP-anesthesia. After completion of that training, he began to provide locum anesthesia coverage at Sault Area Hospital and then became a full-time staff member in 2010. Scott was also an assistant professor in the anesthesia division for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
He loved to teach students and residents. Scott was always pushing the boundaries of how things 'have always been done’ and enjoyed challenging his students to look for new approaches. He embraced new technology and was a strong advocate for ensuring that the Department of Anesthesia was always cutting edge. Scott had a strong interest in regional anesthesia and was always looking for ways to improve post-operative analgesia for our surgical patients. A tireless worker, he was always willing to do more than his share to ensure that patients receive the care that they deserve!! As a member of various committees, his contributions to patient care will be felt for years to come! His focus was always on ways to improve patient care and reduce inefficiencies.
Scott was also a caring father and raised three brilliant children. Paul, Jonathan, and Rachel were always the focus of everything he did. He was proud of his children and knew each would do amazing things. He valued weekly pizza nights with them and loved the camping trips along Lake Superior’s coast. Paul, Jonathan, and Rachel were each very special to him. Scott’s loss will be deeply felt by his husband, Jake. Even though their time was short, it will last forever. Scott will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He was truly one of a kind; charming, humble, funny, loyal, smart, and compassionate.
The family would like to send praise and thank you to the staff of the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH). Their care of Scott in his final time was spectacular and appreciated.
Memorial donations to ARCH would be greatly appreciated by the family.
