Passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, in Kingston at the age of 87. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Jessica Kelly, of Dublin, Ireland, and his partner Betty Ann Bowles. He leaves in sorrow his three children Dominic, Stephanie and Siobhan; grandchildren McKenzie, Madison, Nicholas and Lauren; his ex-wife Renate; as well as numerous friends and acquaintances.
In 1960, Peter graduated in medicine from The Royal London Hospital, then joined the RCAF as a medical officer and immigrated to Canada. He served in Canada and overseas and obtained certification as a flight surgeon. After the completion of his military service, Peter trained in psychiatry at Queen's University, obtaining his fellowship. Afterwards, he practised psychiatry in Kingston, Ont., and served as a consultant with Correctional Services Canada.
Peter retired from clinical practice in 1994, and after a one-year sailing sabbatical, moved to Ottawa where he practised part-time at the National Defence Medical Centre and served on the Ontario Review Board.
Peter was a true renaissance man; in addition to enjoying the arts, he was a true gourmet and oenophile, and an avid reader, having developed an impressive library. He raised beef cattle, was a pilot, sailor and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a practised equestrian, and welcomed the Frontenac Hunt at his Ballymuck Farm on numerous occasions. An avid sportsman, Peter played rugby into his fifties, played tennis and squash and skied in many of the world's renowned destinations. Peter maintained a lifelong affiliation with the Air Force and enjoyed the strong friendships and comradery.
