Ian Donald MacLeod was born on July 15, 1959, in Winnipeg, Man., and died in Peterborough Regional Health Centre on July 4, 2023, at 63 years of age following a brief illness. He is predeceased by his father, Ian Donald MacLeod, who died on Jan. 24, 1997, and by his mother Helen Louise MacLeod who died on Feb. 25, 2022. He is survived by his siblings Judy, John and Alastair and by his wife, Rosana Aganan, and son, Dexter Aganan MacLeod and nieces and nephews Kelsey MacLeod Johansen, Anders MacLeod Johansen, Heather MacLeod, Mary MacLeod, Justin MacLeod, Petra MacLeod and Sean MacLeod.
Donald had a zest for life and adventure and was an active, inquisitive child who enjoyed family car trips, camping, canoeing, swimming, horseback riding and skiing. He also enjoyed rebuilding and customizing cars, a truck and a motorcycle in his youth. He graduated from the University of Manitoba Medical School in 1989 and spent the majority of his medical career practising emergency medicine in various locations including Saipan, Calgary, Saudi Arabia, China, United Arab Emirates, Goderich, Ont. and most recently in Campbellford, Lindsay and Cobourg, Ont.
He travelled extensively throughout the world and enjoyed mountain climbing, kite surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, snowboarding and biking. Donald had a strong affinity for the arts which he expressed through photography, painting, carpentry and work in clay and stained glass.
Donald had big plans and big ideas and was looking forward to his next adventure when his life was cut short by cancer. He was a son, brother, cousin, uncle, husband, father, physician, artist and fellow human who will be remembered and missed by those who loved him.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the Northumberland Hills Hospital and the Peterborough Regional Health Centre for their professionalism, kind care and attention. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society can be made in Donald’s name.
