Beverly Ann Lewis-Harris, MD, FRCP, BA in Fine Arts, was born April 12, 1933, in Ottawa, Ont., grew up in Westfort, Fort William (now Thunder Bay), Ont., and passed peacefully in her 91st year on May 16, 2023, in Toronto, Ont.
Private funeral services and burial took place in Thunder Bay on Friday, May 19. Beverly was predeceased by her husband Peter John Harris (journalist), her parents Yhetta Swartz Lewis and Charlie Lewis, grandparents Nathan and Victoria Swartz and by her dear friend and cousin Marsha Schwartzman.
Beverly Ann attended Francis Street Public School and Fort William Collegiate prior to moving to Toronto to attend the University of Toronto where she excelled. She was accepted into medical school, following which she completed her residency, becoming a pathologist. She retired after 40 years, and following retirement Beverly studied art history at UofT.
Beverly and Peter had multiple interests and in particular, they enjoyed jazz, attending jazz festivals throughout North America and became friends with several jazz musicians. Other interests included art, film, nostalgia, sports cars and cats. In Toronto, she attended the Narayever Synagogue.
Beverly wanted to say a special thank you to her dear friends Don, Susan, N.J. (Norma Jean), Laura, Esther, David, Bernie, Joe and Rabbi Ed; and to Zenni (Zenaida), her close and patient companion for the past several years.
To her family, Beverly Ann has always been Bup. She has always been special to them and will be lovingly remembered by her Swartz and Schwartzman relatives. Her family wants to thank Marsha, Sid and Lisa for being there for Bup when she needed them.
