Learn the essential steps for closing your practice and gain valuable insights from physicians who have been through the process. Discover practical tips and resources for a seamless closure, strategies for finding a replacement, and an overview of estate planning.


Part 1: A conversation on logistics and planning

March 5 from noon to 1 p.m.
Join us for the first session to learn from Dr. Stephen McLaren and Dr. James Delaney, two physicians who have navigated the process successfully. Moderated by Dr. Reena Dhatt, key topics include choosing the right closing date, wrapping up business matters including staff and finances, and effectively managing patient care.


Part 2: Legal and professional obligations 

March 19 from noon to 1 p.m.
This session will be led by OMA Legal Counsel Lesley Freiberg and CMPA’s Dr. Jessica Dy. The webinar will give an overview of your legal and professional obligations when closing your practice. Key topics include patient notification, continuity of care obligations, managing medical records and staff.


Part 3: Succession planning

April 2 from noon to 1 p.m.
This session with Dr. Cody Jackson will cover key aspects of succession planning for your practice. Topics will include strategies to make your practice appealing to potential successors, effective recruitment techniques for finding the right replacement, and tips to ensure long-term retention and success for your successor.


Part 4: Estate planning

April 9 from noon to 1 p.m.
The last webinar of the series will present an overview of estate planning, led by Sr. Director of OMA Insurance Preya-Singh Cushnie. This session will cover key concepts of estate planning such as wills, power of attorney, and trusts. You’ll gain insights into estate planning specific to medical professional corporations and explore the business succession process with expert guidance.
