Dr. Drew Bednar, a clinical professor at McMaster University, holds both a Canadian and American board certification in orthopedics. He completed spine fellowship training with Canadian pioneer of spinal realignment osteotomy and disc arthroplasty, Dr. John Kostuik. Dr. Bednar is a founding member of the Canadian Spine Society and the first clinical professor of orthopedics at McMaster University.
The evolution and delivery of seamless, effective, uncomplicated and outcomes-predictable adult surgical spine care is Dr. Bednar’s primary clinical care interest. He has evolved protocols for ambulatory surgical spine care, oral steroids preoperative co-analgesia and optimized pedicle screw biomechanics, and he led McMaster’s first clinical trial in adult spine care. Patient education is a passion of Dr. Bednar’s. He manages a patient education website dedicated to lumbar spine surgery. Dr. Bednar has been published in over 60 peer-reviewed publications, presents regularly to peers and medical groups, and reviews and edits journals including Spine, Global Spine Journal, Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, among others.
