Governance
The OMA is committed to becoming a highly influential and member-focused organization through effective governance.
The past year has been marked by continued health system and economic disruption, which has had significant impacts on individuals, organizations and society. In these challenging times, strong and effective governance that adapts to business and strategic needs is essential.
Annual General Meeting
All members are invited to participate in the AGM. This year’s meeting on May 2 in Sudbury, Ont., will see the installation of the new OMA president and a report from the board of directors and CEO on the stewardship of the organization.
OMA Board of Directors
The board of directors is responsible for the governance of the OMA and is the highest decision-making authority within the organization. The board’s mandate includes oversight of the corporation’s management and development of the OMA’s approach to governance.
General Assembly
The General Assembly is a generative body that collects member input to develop and recommend organizational priorities to the board on physician issues, health-care policy, advocacy and compensation. The GA is accountable to the board and comprises the General Assembly Steering Committee, the Priority and Leadership Group, panels and working groups.
Constituency groups
Sections, districts, branch societies, medical interest groups and fora represent the interests of their constituency groups and diversity in the type of medical practice, leadership experience, region, gender and other diversity characteristics.
Physician leader support
OMA regional managers and the constituency services team support physician leaders as well as specialty-oriented constituency groups, such as sections, medical interest groups and the Academic Medicine Forum.
