Role and responsibilities

The tariff team member responsibilities include:

  • Managing, in collaboration with the section chair, tariff lead and the executive director, all matters relating to physician billing, fees, and remuneration, including preparation of documentation and information for submission to relevant OMA committees
  • Understanding the diverse interests, needs and payment models of the section membership
  • Working with the section executive to ensure appropriate representation of the experience and needs of all section members
  • Supporting the section during physician services agreement negotiations and physician payment/fee setting processes, as directed by the section chair
  • Work within the SGFP executive approved team mandate and terms of reference
  • Fostering a positive culture that is respectful, civil and collaborative

Reporting relationship

This position will report to the team chair (SGFP tariff lead).

Skills and background required

  • In-depth knowledge of tariff systems in the industry, including a good understanding of the OHIP Schedule of Benefits and other primary care funding models in the province
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in analytical thinking and problem-solving
  • Proven experience or adeptness in negotiation

Eligibility

Vacant positions are open to all SGFP members who:

  • Are an OMA member in good standing
  • Are in good standing with the CPSO (e.g., do not have a CPSO licence that has been suspended or restricted due to a finding of professional misconduct)
  • Are not serving on any other OMA committees, panels, task forces or working groups that restrict eligibility to hold a constituency group leadership position, or any other positions that may present a conflict of interest
  • Have the combination of technical, interpersonal, organizational and political skills and knowledge required by the section to complete tariff related work successfully and efficiently

Term

The term of office of the tariff team member is three years and will commence immediately following the appointment.

Time commitment

The team will meet at least monthly as well as three to four times per year in-person with the SGFP executive and/or other SGFP teams. Members will be expected to prepare for each meeting (material review). There will also be work outside of meetings as required to participate in compensation related initiatives, such as negotiations and OHIP fee-setting exercises.

Remuneration

Members are compensated for their time spent in meetings and for work as required and approved by the chair, according to the OMA’s Financial Policy regarding physician leader honoraria. Currently, this includes an hourly honorarium plus reimbursement for necessary and related travel expenses, such as transportation costs, travel time and accommodations. After the intake period closes, an evaluating team consisting of SGFP members will review all applications against a standardized scoring matrix. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in an interview.

Applicant submissions are evaluated against a predetermined skills matrix. Other selection factors may include diversification of member demographics (e.g., gender and practice location), the presence of specific technical skills and the cohesiveness of the section executive composition as a whole. Currently, all applications undergo the same evaluation process, regardless of a member’s history with the OMA.

Members are encouraged to answer all questions as completely as possible, allowing the selection panel to fairly assess your knowledge and skills. SGFP members who may not be familiar with your work and experience will be reviewing your application.

Team description

The policy and advocacy team is an operational team within the SGFP. This team executes and advises on policy development and advocacy activities that align to the strategic direction of the SGFP executive.

Role and responsibilities

The policy team member responsibilities include:

  • Advising, designing, reviewing and executing on section policy and advocacy activities
  • Working with the section executive and support staff to ensure appropriate representation of the experience and needs of section members
  • Working in close alignment with members of the tariff and digital health teams to advance and optimize mutual priorities
  • Building relationships with the OMA Health Policy Committee and related supports to embed the family medicine voice into OMA policy
  • Collaborating with external stakeholders to develop and reach policy solutions that meet the best interests of family physicians, patients, and the health-care system as a whole
  • Working within the SGFP executive-approved team mandate and terms of reference
  • Fostering a positive culture that is respectful, civil, and collaborative

Reporting relationship

The positions will work with the policy and advocacy lead, who reports to the SGFP executive director.

Skills and background required

  • Demonstrated experience developing a policy
  • Demonstrated experience with advocacy; advocacy for family medicine is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in analytical thinking and problem-solving
  • Proven consultation, partnership building, and relationship management skills to establish key linkages on policy development projects
  • Knowledge of existing government policy and strategic direction

Role summary

The SGFP digital physician lead will advance digital (IT and data) activity aligned to SGFP strategy. They will play a pivotal role in defining the relationship between the SGFP and OntarioMD. This individual will act as the primary point of contact between the two bodies, ensuring effective communication, advocating for the needs of family physicians, and exploring business opportunities arising from advancements in digital managed services. The role requires strategic leadership, digital expertise, and the ability to bring the physician perspective to the development of a digital health service delivery business. The lead will work with a small team of family physicians and possibly work equally in a dyad leadership role with a non-physician.

Role and responsibilities

The digital health physician lead responsibilities include:

  • Strategic planning and advice
    • Executes a new and evolving leadership role for SGFP that includes working with other teams within SGFP including tariff, and policy and advocacy
    • Collaborate with SGFP and OntarioMD leadership to develop and advise on strategic direction that align with the objectives of both organizations, particularly regarding the digital shared services initiative
    • Identify and explore potential business opportunities arising from advancements in digital health technologies
    • Provide expert advice on the integration and implementation of digital health solutions to enhance family practice
  • Communication and advocacy
    • Serve as the primary liaison between SGFP and OntarioMD, facilitating clear and effective communication
    • Advocate for the specific needs and concerns of family physicians within OntarioMD's digital shared services initiative, ensuring projects are aligned with the practical realities of family practice
    • Communicate relevant updates and developments from OntarioMD to SGFP members and vice versa
  • Feedback and continuous improvement
    • Gather and analyze feedback from SGFP members regarding their experiences with OntarioMD's services
    • Use feedback to drive continuous improvement in digital health services provided by OntarioMD to family physicians
    • Develop and implement strategies to increase the adoption and effective use of digital health technologies among family physicians

  • Improved service delivery: Family physicians receive tailored and relevant digital health services, enhancing their ability to deliver high-quality patient care

The SGFP is implementing a new approach to increase member engagement and feedback. The SGFP is seeking several members to join the emerging SGFP Member Advisory Panel to provide support, input and feedback into various SGFP activities. Participation will be on an ad-hoc basis. Through your participation on the panel, you will be contacted by SGFP through email for opportunities that arise.

Examples of opportunities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing early feedback on SGFP priority areas in tariff-related activities, policy development, advocacy activities, and digital health advocacy and implementation support
  • Participation in SGFP advocacy activities
  • Providing family physician input on policies developed outside of the SGFP and OMA (e.g., Ontario Health)

Responsibilities

  • Watch your email for opportunities that are of interest to you and if interested, respond according to the instructions provided
  • Execute requests in a professional and constructive manner within the timeframe requested
