Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC)

The Association of Canadian Medical Colleges (ACMC) was founded in 1943 by the existing eight faculties, one school and one college of medicine as a response to the Canadian government's request to speed up the production of physicians for the war effort. In 1981, ACMC became incorporated representing sixteen faculties of medicine and providing a national voice for academic medicine in Canada. The year 2004 became a milestone with the inception of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, the first new member in over thirty years, and with a new English name for ACMC — The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC).
