OMA Public Affairs and Communications

The Public Affairs Department is responsible for interacting with students, doctors, the public, the private sector, government bodies and the media. We help Ontario's current and future doctors voice their opinions through various means, such as our publications the Ontario Medical Review and Scrub-In. The Public Affairs and Communications team is always on top of what is happening in healthcare from both a provincial and federal perspective. We have shared media forums with the Canadian Medical Association on such issues as tobacco. We focus on provincial health concerns such as smog and the effects it has on the public. We were active in the Walkerton inquest and continue to insist on better environmental practices for all of Ontarians.

We also host career sessions at different medical schools for students interested in learning about different medical specialties. We hold a weekend long student focused leadership skills training program in Toronto; this program is designed to help students develop their leadership skills.

Four main sections make up the Public Affairs Department at the Ontario Medical Association. They are the following:

The Ontario Medical Association also communicates important and timely issues through our fax and e-mail system. If you wish to receive our OMA Membership Updates, have an inquiry or would like to submit an article to the Ontario Medical Review, please use the contact below:
